Mineral Specimen #219 Quartz,Hematite and Caclite
Beckermet Mine, Egremont, West Cumberland Iron Field, North and Western Region (Cumberland), Cumbria, England
This is classic material of Quartz over massive Hematite from the Beckermet Iron Mine which closed in 1980. Quartz crystals cover three sides on a ridge of massive Hematite. The Quartz crystals are well developed with a high luster and clear to milky in transparency. On one side of the specimen, the Quartz crystals are covered with a thin layer of reddish Hematite. There are also small, black, shiney crystals of Hematite scattered over the Quartz crystals. This same side is coverred in places with a coating of small Calcite crystals which are Hematite stained. The other side is completely clean of any secondary crystals. The specimen is in excellent condition with no breakage of any of the Quartz crystals. Even the small Calcite crystals are undamaged to the naked eye and appear undamaged under 10x (there is alot of them - so I cannot vouche for all under 10x).
