Mineral Specimen #216 Purple Fluroapatite on Bertrandite
Golconda District, Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Dark vivid purple Apatite crystals. It took alot of tries to get the color right in the photos; and even still, the hue is pretty close but in person the color is more vivid. The largest crystal (1 cm) has a beveled termination (see 2nd photo). The matrix is massive Bertrandite which has included in it small undetermined mica books and what appears to be pale Smoky Quartz. Some of the smaller Fluorapatite crystals are gemmy. The Apatite crystals contrast nicely with the white Bertrandite.
