Mineral Specimen #2107    Fluorescent Calcite and Opalite Mix

Nye Co., Nevada, USA

Prior to 1975

Under shortwave UV, this specimen fluoresces a bright yellow (more so than in the photo). There is also a patch of bright blue on the back (note: the blue on the side in the second photo is reflected light). The specimen is fine grained massive material. Under regular lighting, the color is white with a hint of pink/lilac. The specimen was part of a Fluorescent exhibit which Don Langham displayed at mineral shows in southern Michigan in the 1960s and early 1970s.
