Mineral Specimen  #203 Montebrasite LiAlPO4

Linópolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

This is a very large single crystal of Montrebrasite. The crystal faces on the front side (depicted) are well formed with very good luster. The triclinic habit is very obvious; although, there is also present an unusual smooth curved surface with growth lines visible. The color is a light, attractive yellow which varies a bit with the type of lighting used. For the species, this specimen is very large and quite attractive. There is also a white mineral on the surface of the crystal on the left side which appears to be Albite. This white mineral is also included in small amounts within the crystal. The back side of the specimen appears to be healed cleavages. There are some small chips on the top edge and one chip where the faces meet on the right side and intermal cleavages are present.
