Mineral Specimen #201 Double-Terminated Bi-Color Tourmaline (Elbaite
Minas Gerais, Brazil
This Tourmaline has two completely different terminations, one flat and the other a point composed of a multitude of faces. The Tourmaline is a pretty, bright, light green color with a rose pink tip and just a very thin layer of pink at the flat termination. The color of the terminations is more pronounced the closer it is to a light and in these pictures since all were shot with the specimen backlit (with the exception of the third photo). The specimen is virtually damage free with the exception of a few internal fractures perpidicular to the C axis which is common in Tourmalines. This specimen was originaally purchased in the 1970s.
