Mineral Specimen  #196 Amethyst

Epimenio mine, Pierda Parada, Vera Cruz, Mexico

An excellent specimen of Veracruz Amethyst with no damage. The largest three crystals range between a little over 3 cm to 4 cm in length. This was mined in 2005. There is some minor Epidote on the matrix. The small dots visible in the photos (hard to see in person) are inclusions of Lepidocrocite. The color in person has a little redder tint (with a little less blue) than the photos (I tried various type of lights, settings on the camera, and post production editing - this is the closest I could get the color - it's pretty good). These specimens are usually labeled as being from Las Vigas. Pierda Parada is actually the closest village to the mine; Las Vigas is where the miners sell lots of amethyst to the gringo mineral dealers.
