Mineral Specimen #184    Septarian Nodule / Calcite in Chert

Beach of Lake Michigan, South Haven, Van Buren County, Michigan

This is a very nice example of a seldom seen Septarian Nodule found on the beach near South Haven, Michigan. South Haven is better known as a summer resort community. In the spring, collectors can find the nodules washed up on the shore from the winter storms and ice buildup. These are never plentiful and this specimen is quite large. It was cut and polsihed by Archie's Rock Shop in Mason, Michigan.
