Mineral Specimen #174    Spessartine Garnet, Smoky Quartz on Bladed Feldspar

Tongbei, Yunxiao County, Zhangzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province, China

13.1 x 13 x 8 cm

Sold

This is an extremely unusual specimen for this location for two reasons. The underlying Feldspar has a bladed habit. Mindat only has Microcline listed for the location. The Feldspar's habit is more like Albite. After doing a lot of searching online, I could find nothing that helped with indentifying the Feldspar. The only other specimen similar to this was another I had and is now sold. Also, the green material covering most of the Feldspar matches nothing listed for the location. I have seen a lot of specimens from Tongbei with a green coating on the Mica; but this material has much larger crystallization (see closeup). All in all a very unique specimen.
