Mineral Specimen #167 Barite
Egremont, West Cumberland Iron Field, Cumbria, England
A fine example of Barite (or Baryte) from this classic location. This came from the Wintringham collection via Ron Kendig. The specimen has a pale blue/gray color with a red Hematite coating on one side. There are black dendritic inclusions of undetermined mineral. The color is a little washed out in the first four photos because they are strongly backlit to show the clarity of the specimen and the inclusions. The last two photos better display the color. There is a very clear window in one of the crystal tips (the crystal to the right in the 4th photo). The specimen is in good condition, but there are two broken crystal corners - on the front crystal in the middle in the first photo and the small crystal on the bottom in the third photo.
