Mineral Specimen #161 Copper Wire Crystal on Prehnite with Copper inclusions in Prehnite
Osceola Mine, Osceola, Houghton County, Michigan, USA
These wire crystals have formed in a void in a Prehnite seam. Some of the wire has an overgrowth of Calcite. There is also more Copper included in the Prehnite. There is also Epidote present. The specimen has been cleaned in acid and then sealed to perserve the copper color and luster. The Osceola Mine originally opened in 1873 and was one of the last Copper mines in the Keweenaw peninsula to close in 1968. There were a total of 11 shafts.
