Mineral Specimen #160 Copper Wire Crystal on Quartz
Osceola Mine, Osceola, Houghton County, Michigan, USA
An interesting group of wires on Quartz. There is some tan (with a hint of green) material encrusting much of the Quartz. There is also Epidote and Pumpellyite-(Mg) present. The Epidote can be seen on the bottom of the specimen as micro crystals. Much of the Quartz appears to have inclusions of Pumpellyite-(Mg) giving it a teal color. The specimen has been cleaned in acid and then sealed to perserve the copper color and luster. The Osceola Mine originally opened in 1873 was the one of the last Copper mines in the Keweenaw peninsula to close in 1968. There were a total of 11 shafts.
