Mineral Specimen #1319    Dioptase on Chrysocolla and included in Quartz

Morenci, Greenlee Co., Arizona, USA

Small crystals of emerald green Dioptase cover a specimen of Chryosocolla. There are a few clear crystals a couple of which have included Chrysocolla (these are small and needed examination with a 10x loupe to verify they were indeed included). In another section, small Quartz crystals cover the Chrysocolla with the blue Chrysocolla visible through the Quartz. The color if Dioptase is nearly impossible to duplicate with a digital camera. The color of this specimen was adjusted to try to get it close to correct (the actual color is that typical for Dioptase). In adjusting the color, much of the blue was lost. The last (unadjusted) picture of the bottom of the specimen correctly portrays the Chrysocolla's color. The specimen is fairly good condtion with the exception of a few small areas of wear. The specimen was most likely collected by Stan Ebenshade in the late 1990s.
