Mineral Specimen #1313 Ruby Zoisite (Anyolite) Polsihed Obelisk - Corundum, Zoisite and Tseckermakite
Longido, Mt Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania
Anyolite or Ruby Zoisite is a metamorphic rock consisting of granular masses of bright green chrome bearing zoisite with minor black Tschermakite which contains large porphyroblasts of ruby corundum. In this specimen, the Corundum and Tschermakite are pretty evenly distributed. There are a couple of places where the Courumdum has filled former cracks in the Zoisite/Tsachermakite. This specimen has been polished into an obelisk shape. It has a very good polish. The color of the Ruby is a little redder in person. The Ruby fluoresces a good red under LW UV, although, like most ruby corundums it needs to be close to the UV source.
