This is a rather complex Quartz crystal or rather two crystals. At the base, there is an Amethyst crystal with a good dark purple color. Actually, the Amethyst is a phantom inside clear Quartz. Perched upon the Amethyst, there is another Quartz crystal. This crystal is double terminated. Most of it is clear with just a hint of smoky color which is more pronounced on the edges and on the termination. However, where this crystal meets the Amethyst crystal, it is much darker. The smoky crystal has a complex habit which is often referred to as Elestial. There are hollow growth patterns within the crystal some of which contain a reddish brown coloration which likely due to the inclusion of Hematite. Some of the surfaces, especially in the back, show unusual scalloped growth lines. The specimen is in good condition with the exception of a chip on the back side of one of the sides of the termination and an internal fracture also on the back side.
