Mineral Specimen #1144    Penetration Twinned Dolomite, Quartz and Hematite

Brumado, Bahia, Brazil

2.5 x 1.7 x 2.3 cm
1 x 0.7 x 0.9 in

Sold

Two well formed, penetration twinned Dolomite crystals with a Quartz crystal laying on one side. The Dolomite is very clear with the exception of some internal fractures. One crystal is pyramidal and the other is cubic. A rainbow effect is observable in the Quartz. It is hard to tell if this is produced where the Quartz and Dolomite are in contact or from an internal fracture in the Quartz. There is a layer of reddish brown Hematite on the surface of the Quartz and included just below the surface of the Dolomite. The bottom of the Dolomite appears to have been a point of attachment which has healed over. The specimen is in fairly good condition. The only damage to the Dolomite is where another, smaller Quartz crystal has become detached and a minor amount of wear on the bottom edges. The Quartz is not terminated at either end. One end is covered with Hematite and the other end appears to be a fresh break.
