Mineral Specimen #1142 Pyrite Concretion Nodules
Port Huron, St. Clair Co., Michigan USA
1979
These are the only Pyrite specimens from Port Huron I have ever seen nor is there any reference be found regarding other specimens. That being said, similar specimens have been found in the limestones around the lower Great Lakes, including not far away to the north in Michigan's thumb and to the east in southern Ontario at Kettle Point. It is possible these formed around organic material and can be considered a semi fossil. The concretions are in good condition. They were kept all these years in a zip log back (quite yellowed with age). This might be a good idea in the future; there was a bit of gray powder on them which I cleaned off.
