Mineral Specimen #1120    Sphalerite with minor Chalcopyrite and Calcite

Mid-Continent Mine, Treece, Picher Field, Tri-State District, Cherokee Co., Kansas, USA

An excellent miniature Sphalerite specimen. The Sphalerite is completely black and has a very high luster. It is well crystallized and consists of three larger crystals and two smaller ones. There are also some minor Chalcopyrite on one side and minor clear Calcite on the other. What is really nice is the actual mine was recorded which was seldom the case for specimens from the Tri-State district.
