Mineral Specimen #1067    Domeykite

Ahmeek Mine, Ahmeek, Keweenaw County, Michigan, USA

Cu2As

A large, polished piece of this rare Copper Arsenide. Although there is likely a mix of materials in this specimen, making it similar to Mohawkite, there is a very large percentage of Domeykite. The color is almost black where unpolished and light brown color where polished. Because of the high polish, the curved surface, and the material's light color; was it impossible to get a photo depicting the acutal color. It is like taking a picture of a mirror. At certain angles, a rainbow like effect is observed.

6.3 x 5.3 x 2.7 cm
