Mineral Specimen #1019 Iridescent Pyrite with Diploid and Tetraploid Habits
Duff Quarry, Huntsville, Logan, County, Ohio, USA
The Duff quarry produces some of the most interesting Pyrite specimen in the world. This specimen exhibits the rare Diploid and Tetraploid habits for which the quarry is noted. Additionally, the specimen has a beuatiful golden orange iridescent color with some surfaces purple and others almost red. The largest crystal, a tetraploid, is 6 mm across. There are also also some small Dolomite crystals on the specimen. The specimen is actually even more attractive in person since the vug is fairly deep and it is hard to illuminate the interior. The specimen is in vey good condition. The bottom has been sawed so the specimen stands nicely. Collected recently by John and Jay Medici.
