Mineral Specimen #6668 Calcite with Included Marcasite and Pyrite
Conco Mine, North Aurora, Kane Co., Illinois
24.1 x 9.7 x 5.4 cm
9.5 x 3.8 x 2.1 in
Ex. Norm Woods
A large Calcite specimen from the western suburbs of Chicago. The Calcite crystals are heavily included with very small crystals of both Marcasite and Pyrite which are have a lot of sparkle and give the Calcite and overall gray coloration. Because of the shape of the specimen, it was highly enticing to trim it into two specimens; but it seemed keeping a large intact specimen, in good condition, from a location from which specimens are seldom available had a certain merit. It does need a stand to display well.
Flaws: Nothing Appreciable
