Mineral Specimen #968    Fluorescent Tourmaline

Mount Apatite District, Auburn, Androscoggin Co., Maine, USA

This is quite rare material; the pink Tourmaline fluoresces blue under a SW lamp. I had heard of fluorescent Tourmaline but this is the first specimen I have seen. The Tourmaline is pink and green. None of it is terminated and it is a bit cracked. Note: the blue fluorescence is not quite as vivid of blue in real life.

6.2 x 4.3 x 3.3 cm
