Mineral Specimen #943 Grossular Garnet, Vesuvianite, Diopside, Clinochlore
Gletscher Alp, Langflue Spielboden area, Saas Fee, Saas Valley, Zermatt Saas Fee area, Wallis (Valais), Switzerland
This is a very old specimen with a label from the 1800s. There are some really nice, sharp Garnet crystals with a high luster. Although some of the Calcite crystals are cleaved (and at least one shows a large contact area), the smaller ones are water clear with sharp edges. When examining the specimen with a 10x loupe, I found some small, long, thin, transparent pale green Diospide crystals (not pictured). The one Vesuvianite crystal on the side is nicely terminated. There is mineralization on three sides of the specimen. Since there are no photos on mindat for this location (although all the species are listed) some of these photos will be posted as soon as possible.
