Mineral Specimen #936    Quartz coated with Hematite with Calcite and Chalcopyrite

Jiu Bao San Mine, Wuhuashan, Jiangxi Province, China

This is a new location for specimens with no information yet listed on mindat. The material is quite different than that found elsewhere. The Hematite is a bright reddish color and looks as if it was spray painted onto the Quartz. The Calcite also appears to be colored with Hematite giving it a pink color. The Chalcopyrite is a bright gold color. There are elongated small crystals of an unidentified material which are coated with black and reveal a dull gold color in the interior where broken. The specimen is in very good condition with no damage to the termination. The sides of the crystal appear to be contacts with other Quartz crystals which grew parallel to it.
