Mineral Specimen #924 Smoky Quartz, Calcite, Goethite crystals, Gypsum and Barite
Cinque quarry, East Haven, New Haven Co., Connecticut, USA
The white Calcite on this specimen contrasts nicely with the Smoky Quartz. There are numerous small crystals of Goethite, some of which are quite nice under magnification. There is some pink Barite at one end of the specimen. White Barite also forms a layer under the Smoky Quartz. There is also a seam of Gypsum running through the matrix. With the exception of the pink Barite, the specimen is in very good condition with no appreciable damage to either the Calcite or the Smoky Quartz.
