Mineral Specimen #862 Prehnite with Chrysocolla and Chalcopyrite
Lower New Street quarry, Paterson, Passaic Co., New Jersey, USA
This is from a new find at the Lower New Street Quarry. Specimens from this find are some of the most attractive ever found in New Jersey. This is one of a very small number which are partially coated with a crust of Chrysocolla which has formed from the presence of Chalcopyrite some of which is still present on the bottom of the specimen. The Prehnite is well crystallized with curved crystals which form hemispheres. The luster is very high, although on this specimen it is dulled in places by a thin layer of the Chrysocolla. Also present is a small plant rootlet. The color of this specimen is a light green. The specimen is in excellent condition.
