Mineral Specimen #857 Apophyllite on Prehnite
Bull Run Quarry, Conklin, Loudoun Co., Virginia, USA
Very clear, gemmy, rectangular, tabular Apophyllite crystals with high luster on a bed of Prehnite. This specimen looks much better in person; it is hard to photograph clear crystals. There is some Babingtonite on the bottom of the specimen not pictured. There is an old painted label on the bottom. It is unclear if 74 indicates the year of collection or ascension in a collection. Also, there is a reference to an older collection the specimen came from. The specimen is from a location near the Bull Run Battlefield which was the first battle in the American Civil War. The specimen is in good condition with a minimum of damage on the edges of the crystals.
