Mineral Specimen #785 Quartz, Siderite, Calcite
panasqueira Mines, Panasqueira, Covilha, Castelo Branco District, Portugal
The Quartz on this specimen is water clear, more so than these pictures depict. There are two generations of Calcite present, both white, in the form of rhombic crystals and smaller double terminated crystals. At first, it seemed the Rhombic crystals were Dolomite, but there does not seem to be any curve to the habit. The Siderite crystals are under the Calcite and are a yellow/green color. Scattered across the Calcite are numerous micro crystals of Pyrite and an occasional micro crystal of Ferberite. The specimen is in good condition with two small internal fractures in the Quartz and a small chip from the termination.
