Mineral Specimen #769    Pink Tourmaline and Stilbite

Himalaya Mine, San Diego County, California, USA

Here is a very unusual combination of mineral species. When I first got this specimen, I could not believe the combination of Stilbite with Tourmaline. I checked on mindat, and sure enough, there were a couple of other specimens posted. The Tourmaline on this specimen has a very rich, deep, pink color. This contrasts nicely with the brown Stilbite. The Tourmaline is a thin, wide crystal of an unusual habit. It is terminated at both ends. There is one section of the Tourmaline which at first looked to be broken, but under closer examination, has both growth lines and small secondary crystals. This may be a rehealed break. With this exception, the specimen is in very good condition with no damage to the Stilbite.
