Mineral Specimen #761 Hydroxylapatite on Microcline
Sapo mine, Ferruginha, Conselheiro Pena, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil
This specimen consists of numerous crystals of Hydroxylapatite on Microcline. Hydroxylapatite is considerable less common than Fluorapatite. Additionally, the crystal habit exhibited on this specimen is quite unusual for Apatite being flattened hexagonal dipyramids with little or no prism faces. The specimen is in very good condition with the only damage confined to the crystals at the very corners of the specimen. It does feel as if the specimen has been oiled.
