Mineral Specimen #749    Calcite with Included Malachite on a Wire

Bisbee, Arizona, USA

This specimen is a post mining overgrowth of Calcite on a copper wire. The color is a greenish yellow with included small particles of bright green Malachite. The surface of the Calcite has a high luster and a melted appearance; persumably, from exposure to acidic ground water. There is a break in the middle of the specimen. One half readily spins. If one wanted, the pieces could be glued together.
