Mineral Specimen #693    Blue Hemimorphite with probable Kipushite

Laochang Tin Mine, Gejiu Co., Honghe Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China

This Hemimorphite on his specimen is a bright powder blue color with a botryoidal habit. The surface is extremely shiny. There are small, green spheres which is likely Kipushite, a rare copper and zinc phosphate which is found at this mine occuring as small spheres. This is just a visual identification with no analysis having been done; however, there is nothing else listed for the location which matches. The specimen is in excellent condition with the exception of the contact zone. The bottom and sides have been sawn. The price is based on the value of the specimen as Hemimorphite; if confirmed, the Kipushite would greatly increase the value.
