Mineral Specimen #676 Heliodor
Pakistan originally sold as being from Zelatoya Vada Mine, Rangkul, Tien Shan Mts, Region of Republican Subordination, Tajikistan
This yellow, gemmy Heliodor was originally sold as being from Tajistan. The color is golden yellow, although a hint of green is visible depending upon the lighting. When an investigation was made as to the location of the mine, the mine could not be found. Apparently, the mine was fictitious. The common consensus is these specimens were originally pale Aquamarine from Pakistan which had been treated with irradiation. The top of the crystal is gem quality. An unusual aspect of this specimen is revealed when viewed down the C axis. It has a core which is totally transparent. Closer examination reveals there is a phantom crystal in the interior due to two generations of growth. The specimen is good condition with a very small amount of wear on the edges of the terminations.
