Dugway Mountains District, Dugway Range, Tooele Co., Utah, USA

This is a small, very attractive geode specimen with long, thin Quartz crystals some of which exhibit a scepter habit. The Quartz crystals are very clear and very lustrous and sparkle nicely. The longest crystals are 5 mm long. The walls of the geode are a blue/gray color. The location is best known for its chalcedony geodes in rhyolite. And although it is not uncommon to find some Quartz crystals in these geodes, they are usually nothing as nice as these being usually more stout and often milky. This specimen is highly unusual for the location. Please note, the location is misspelled on the label. The specimen is in excellent condition, although there is a bit of styrofoam glued on the outside in one spot. It was hard to photograph the depths of the interior; the next to last picture was taken with natural sunlight. The specimen was formerly owned by Les Wilson of suburban Detroit.
