Ex. George Balogh
Quite a unique specimen from a former iron and manganese mine which operated from 1891 until 1981 consisting of 4 pits which are now flooded and are used as fishing ponds. The matrix of the specimen is fine grained Hematite which is partially crystallized. A vug is filled with well formed Dolomite crystals which are partially coated with a thin layer of an unidentified sulfide which in places has a metallic luster which is not depicted in the photos. On the Dolomite crystals, Calcite crystals have grown which have an elongated habit with stepped sides and terminations consisting of three, triangular faces. There are also a few, small, dark colored sulfide crystals present.
Condition: Excellent
Flaws: The crystals within the vug are in excellent condition. The crystals are cleaved along outer edge of the vug.
