Ex. University of Michigan Geology Department from J. H. Hatton
On the surface of this specimen are small, silvery colored Molybdenite crystals intermixed with greenish colored Muscovite on a thin layer of massive Albite on massive light gray colored Smoky Quartz. The specimen is from a classic New England location which has long been closed. Molybdenite specimens from the location are quite rare. The specimen is from J. H. Hatton. who wrote a paper in 1936 for the American Mineralogist, vol. 22, pp. 800-809, titled "An Inexpensive Table for Polishing Ore". The design was a modification of a table designed by A. J. Eardley from the Geology Department of the University of Michigan. The table was known as the Eardley-Hatton polishing table and was used to prepare ore samples for microscopic determination of ore minerals.
Condition: Composed of massive material.
Flaws: Essentially massive material.
