Amethyst from New Jersey is a relative rarity and thus sought after. This particular specimen is from a location from which Amethyst specimen are very rarely available although less than 10 miles from Prospect Park which is the most prolific New Jersey location for Amethyst. The Amethyst is on a matrix of trap rock basalt and has white to clear Quartz crystals surrounding it. The color is a medium purple with a few dark areas. The crystals are a bit crudely shaped, translucent to nearly transparent in places with a few showing crude phantoms. The crystals have a good, glassy luster.
