Mineral Specimen #6293    Myrickerite - Cinnabar Included in Common Opal

Six miles south of Mojave, Kern Co., California

10.1 x 9 x 5.5 cm

$50 / Reserved

Ex. University of Michigan Geology Department, Ex. The Bradleys, Prior to 1949

Small micro inclusions of Cinnabar run in bands through a common opal matrix. The color of the Cinnabar ranges from pink to mauve to light purple. The surface has a glossy luster more so where there are small indivudual, flat surfaces. This is a bit different than similar specimens I have seen from the area which are often used for lapidary purposes.

Condition: Composed of massive material.

Flaws: Essentially massive material.
