Mineral Specimen #6264    Hyaline Opal on Rutile with Minor Hematite

Novo Horizonte, Bahia, Brazil

4.4 x 1.8 x 2 cm

Sold

Here is a most unusual specimen where Hyaline Opal has almost completely covered Rutile crystals. The Hytaline has a glassy luster and a bubbly habit. The Ruitle crystals are in a parallel orientation due to epitaxial growth on Hematite. The location is famous for its Rutile crystals but this is such a rarity that Hyaline is not even listed for the location on mindat. Under SW, the Hyaline fluoresces green although not quite as vividly as from other locations.

Condition: Very Good

Flaws: Nothing Appreciable
