Mineral Specimen #5999    Macquartire, Diopside, Wulfenite, Fornacite, Barite

Type Location

4.1 x 3.3 x 2.1 cm

Only known location

Cu2Pb7(CrO4)4(SiO4)2(OH)2

Macquartire is a very rare, orange colored, unclassified silicate which has only been found at this one location and never in crystals much exceeding 1 mm. Because of the very small size, it was not possible to get a good photo with my inexpensive camera. The best crystals are intermixed with some Dioptase crystals which are present as sprays of thin, elongated, radiating crystals. There is more Macquartire on the bottom of the specimen indicated by the blue arrow. These appear to be mostly broken crystals and grains in the matrix.

Condition: Good

Flaws: Nothing Appreciable
