A slabbed specimen of Kingston conglomerate which contains native Copper. This was the ore from the Kingston Mine which was the last new mine opened on the Keweenaw Peninsula. The mine opened in 1964 and then closed in 1967 when C&H shut down all mining operations. It is distinguishable from C&H Conglomerate by the finer texture and the presence of the small black colored spots. Please note: the slab was coated with some kind of lacquer which had for the most deterioated and the Copper had darkened. The sealant was removed which also brightened the Copper. With time, the Copper will darken.
