Mineral Specimen #5961 Marcasite on Calcite with Included Hematite
George W. MacLeod mine, McMurray Twp., near Wawa, Algoma Dist., Ontario, Canada
5.8 x 4.8 x 3.7 cm
1950s or 60s
Small spherical aggregates of small crystals of Marcasite have formed on dogtooth Calcite crystals. The Calcite crystals have inclusions reddish Hematite, many of which exhibit red colored phantoms. The specimen is likely from the 1950s or 1960s. Specimens from the location are not common because of the strict prohibition placed against the miners for removing specimens.
Flaws: Some of the Marcasite has deteriorated.
