Mineral Specimen #5179    Multicolored Datolite, Epidote, Calcite, Copper, Epidote

Lake Superior Copper District, Keweenaw Peninsula, Upper Peninsula, Michigan

Two polished halves of a Datolite nodule which exhibits colors which include the much coveted yellow, pink, white and orange. These colors contrast nicely with the dark green Prehnite which encompasses them. Also present are two cross sections of white colored Calcite crystals, native Copper and some minor Epidote. The native Copper is scattered throughout the Prehnite and is also present in small amounts in the Calcite. One of the halves is partially polished on the reverse side. The polish is well done. The specimen is from an old collection from the Detroit area. Since the pictures were taken, the specimen has been cleaned in Ironout which greatly lessens the yellow coloration, especially in the cracks making the specimen more attractive than in the pictures.
