Mineral Specimen #500 Cassiterite
Viloco Mine (Araca mine), Loayza Province, La Paz Department, Bolivia
The Cassiterite crystals on the specimen range from an opaque black to having gemmy sections of varying color. The color of the gemmy areas is a bit hard to describe. Most of it is a brown with reddish or orange overtones. But at certain angles, some of the crystals exhibit a hint of yellow or even green. All of the crystals are highly lustrous. There are a few stray small thin very clear Quartz crystals on the specimen. Overall, the specimen is in decent condition with some bruising and internal fractures (which often is the source of the gemmy sections).
