Mineral Specimen #490    Pink Spinel

Ipanko, Mahenge, Morogoro Region, Tanzania

This is a large Spinel crystal with attached smaller crystals. The habit is octahedral and twinned. This twinning is called Spinel twinning and is also used to describe other minerals. The specimen does fluoresce red under LW, but only the darker, smaller crystals are very vibrant. The specimen is in very good condition with no appreciable damage.
