Mineral Specimen #485 Iridescent Calcite with Selenite
Wallace Stone Quarry, Bayport, Huron County, Michigan
This Calcite from this quarry is very difficult to collect. The Limestone it is attached to is very tough. Hitting it hard enough to cause the Limestone to break causes the Calcite to fall off. The Calcite on this specimen is very lustrous and has a pink/purple iridescence from a certain angle (not readily visible in the photos). It is highly unusual to find Selenite associated with the Calcite at the quarry. The Selenite on this specimen is water clear and highly lustrous. Unfortunately, it is damaged at the termination (a bit worse than the photos depict). Still and all, this is probably the only specimen of this combination from this quarry available for sale. This was collected in the spring of 2010 by Ron Aldridge who works at the quarry.
