Mineral Specimen #4760    Pyromorphite on Quartz with Casts after Barite

Williams Corners, Wheatley Mines, Phoenixville Mining dist., Schuylkill Twp., Chester Co., Pennsylvania

The Pyromorphite on this specimen ranges in color from bright, emerald green to yellow green and is present as both individual crystals and thin, curved ridges. It grew on the surface of crudely formed, white colored Quartz crystals. There are casts after Barite in the Quartz on the opposing side of the specimen. The label on the bottom of the specimen indicates a very obscure location; the only reference Google revealed was from a map of Schuylkill township in which the Wheatley mines are located. This specimen came from a small local collection which contained a number of specimens from the Carnegie collection which has an extensive inventory of specimens from the area and may have been the source of the specimen.

Condition: Fairly Good

Flaws: There is some bruising and scuffing on the Pyromorphite, a little more than is evident in the pictures.

9.8 x 6.2 x 5.2 cm
