Mineral Specimen #473 Topaz, Amazonite, Tourmaline, Phenakite
Zapot pegmatite, Gillis Range, Fitting District, Mineral Co., Nevada
This is a great pegamatic combination specimen. The location was discovered and claimed by Harvey Gordon. The name, Zapot, is Topaz backwards. While photographing the specimen, I discovered the little gemmy Phenakite. The Amazonite has a very nice blue/green color with stripes of white. There are also more micro Phenakites on the Amazonite. A new mineral, Simmonsite, was discovered on the claim. I actually wrote Harvey to try to get some, but he did not have any at the time available for sale. The specimen is in decent condition with the Amazonite in excellent condition, but the Topaz while it is gemmy, has a lot of internal fractures and is cleaved at one end.
