Mineral Specimen #4688 Siderite, Calcite, Iridescent Sphalerite
Panasquiera Mines, Panasquiera, Portugal
A stack of dark gray colored, bladed Siderite crystals which have grown over a central core of Sphalerite crystals. A few of the Sphalerite crystals peak through the Siderite and are black in color with a subtle purple iridescence. Long ridges of yellow/beige colored, spherical aggregates of curved, bladed Calcite crystals have grown on the Siderite and Sphalerite. On one side of the specimen, the Calcite almost completely covers the specimen but is sparse on the opposing side. In one place, there is a rounded, stack of these Calcite crystals.
