Mineral Specimen #4663    Yellow Datolite

Mesnard Mine (Quincy No. 8 shaft), Quincy Mine, Houghton Co., Michigan

Ex. Edward Colmeman.

The color of this Datolite is a good yellow with just a bit of butterscotch tint; better than usually seen from the Mesnard mine. The polish is very good and there are no cracks. However, the shape is a bit irregular to maximize the yellow area. A note on the location: the Mesnard mine was originally a seperate mine from the Quincy but was later bought by the Quincy and incorporated into it.

Condition: Good

Flaws: The specimen has not been cut into a perfect oval having a flat spot on the edge, near the top of the yellow area. There is another flat spot in the dark area opposite this.

3.1 x 1.8 x 1.2 cm
