Mineral Specimen #4639 Calcite on Fluorite with Included Chalcopyrite
Hardin Co., Illinois
Ex. A. Neely, 1960s
Small, opaque, snow white Calcite crystals on a Fluorite crystal which has an unusual yellow/orange color. The Calcite crystals are covered with a druze of very small, micro crystals - this may be some type of epimorph/pseudomorph. Included within the Fluorite are well formed Chalcopyrite crystals up to 2 mm across. One of these is exposed on a cleavage plane and exhibits a reddish tarnish.
Flaws: There are cleavage planes on the edges and one corner of the specimen. A couple of the Calcite crystals are incomplete.
